A reboot of a franchise that ended just eight years before, 2015's Fantastic Four was a stretch even for Mr. Fantastic. The remake that nobody asked for had the odds stacked against it from the beginning, with the cloud of living up to—and even surpassing—the original franchise hanging overhead. With great expectations looming over production, the budget soared up to an estimated $200 million.

The heavy promotion and all-star cast that included Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, and Jamie Bell wasn't enough to entice the public to believe in the movie. The film grossed a mere $56 million domestically and a total $111 million worldwide, barely making up half of the film's budget.

Total loss: $99 million
