10 Biggest Casting Mistakes In MCU History

7. Rachel McAdams (Doctor Strange)

Heimdall Thor
Marvel Studios

When you read off the CV of Rachel McAdams, it reads as a who's who of Hollywood super roles.

Mean Girl's Regina George.

The Notebook's Allie Hamilton.

Sherlock Holmes' Irene Adler.

Spotlight's Sacha Pfeiffer.

She can literally do it all and has led in Oscar winning films where she has had the joy of exploring diverse and meaty characters, receiving plenty of critical acclaim along the way.

Marvel's decision to cast McAdams in 2016's Doctor Strange was a bit of a no brainer, then. What was down right dumb was to cast her in the role of stationary love interest, Christine Palmer to Benedict Cumberbatch's titular character.

Although McAdams smashed it in the role - as you'd expect - the audience were left feeling sold short as they had paid their money to see her be a pivotal part of the action, not an emotional stake to add to Strange's journey.

It was a peculiar move for the studio as another actor with less critical spotlight (no pun intended) would have fit the role just as well and would not have distracted the audience from the experience by having them question why such a big name contributed so little.

It added more fuel to the 'women as love interest to main hero' fire and Marvel should of been aiming higher than that with such a huge talent.
