10 Biggest Clichés Of The Disney Renaissance

1. The Villain Will Die A Horrific Death

So here is the reason villains of the Disney Renaissance had to be complete and utter swines with no redeemable qualities. It was because there were going to meet their end in a horrific death!

Let's just straight-up list some of the more gruesome scenes that wouldn't feel out of place in an Ari Aster flick. Spoilers abound for those who never had a childhood.

Ursula is impaled through her guts by a ship, Gaston plummets from the top of Beast's castle, Scar is ripped to pieces by his own hyena henchmen, Clayton falls in Disneys Tarzan, whilst wrapping himself in vines and HANGING FROM THE NECK and Hades falls into the River Styx, essentially cursed to spend forever in the depths of damnation.

In fact, that last one got a repeat performance. Ten years after the renaissance, The Princess And The Frog held the honour of being the encore performance of Disney's most endearing and iconic style, and underrated villain Dr Facilier met his end by being dragged kicking and screaming into hell!

The rules of nostalgia seem to indicate that thirty years ago will always be profitable. It's why pop culture is currently leaving the age of '80s reboots and is now heading to the '90s. It's also maybe why Disney had a renaissance three decades ago, so who knows, perhaps within the next ten years we will see yet another return to the old school animation style, horrific baddie fatalities and all.
