10 Biggest Clichés Of The Disney Renaissance

2. The Visual Effects Oscar Bait Scene

The Lion King

Nowadays it may seem quite odd, even jarring, when watching a Disney film from the renaissance era and all of a sudden Belle and Beast are dancing around a 3D rendered ballroom, or Aladdin goes on a POV flight through the Cave Of Wonders, but back in the '90s, these sequences would blow audiences minds.

Disney has always been at the forefront of groundbreaking digital animation technology and would feature at least one scene to showcase that.

By the time The Lion King came around the effects became a little more subtle such as using digital effects to amplify the wildebeest count during the stampede sequence. So subtle in fact, it was a point the visual effects crew seemed to have mentioned during every TV special or making of feature during the time of the release of the movie. Need to get that VFX Oscar nom!

After Toy Story hit theatres in '95, the effects became a lot more prominent and impressive, as showcased in scenes such as the battle with the Hydra in Hercules or Tarzan sliding and swinging through the jungle, until eventually CGI took over completely and killed off the hand-drawn animation that paints our nostalgia.
