10 Biggest Clichés Of The Disney Renaissance
6. The Hero's Song Of Wanting Something More
It is part of the human condition to always want something more, no matter how poor or well off the outside world sees you.
It's actually a trait both renaissance heroes and villains seem to share. A perfect example is the respect Jeff Bezos used to get for starting Amazon in his garage, and the hate he gets now for wanting to ride johnson-shaped rockets into space.
All Disney renaissance tales begin with the lead wanting a change from their normal mundane existence. This is best captured by singing an anthem that nowadays you are most likely to hear being sung by some drunkard on the wrong side of thirty warbling into a karaoke machine.
Hercules wants to find a way and go the distance. Quasimodo wants to spend one day out there. Simba just can’t wait to be king, and Belle wants more than this provincial life, surrounded by buffoons who seemed so shocked by someone reading a book that they have to make a literal song and dance about it.
Our heroes yearn for adventure, and nothing puts the audience on their side more than a good old-fashioned sing-along.
