10 Biggest Clichés Of The Disney Renaissance

5. The Villian Song About Doing The Evil

The Lion King
Disney

What was the first Disney villain song? Honest John sang Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee in Pinocchio, but that was more of a ditty to inspire everyone’s favourite possessed puppet to take up a life of acting. Then you have Cruella De Vil’s song from 101 Dalmatians, but that was sung about her rather than her own show-stopping soliloquy.

It wasn’t really until the renaissance did the baddies get their own tune to sing specifically designed to let the audience know that not only are they a bit of a bastard, but they love it.

You can't have any grey areas in the middle. No “Thanos might be right” essays here. The kiddies have to 100% hate the evildoers for reasons we get into later on this list.

So this is why Ursula relishes in the delight at these poor unfortunate souls, or why Scar decides to belt out his secret plans to kill his brother at the top of his lungs.

Did you know, that despite Jafar actor Jonathan Freeman being an accomplished Broadway star, his song “Humiliate The Boy” was cut out of Aladdin? Sure, Freeman went on the reprise the role on stage in the Aladdin musical, but if anybody deserves a song it’s the one who is so evil he doesn’t laugh at Robin Williams and has a kink for giant golden snake rods. For shame Disney! Who’s the real villain!?
