Lying to a casting director is one thing, but having the guts to lie to a Hollywood legend like Martin Scorsese is another.

Wanting most of his actors to have English accents, the director went and stuffed the cast of his 2011 film Hugo with a who's who of British talent, including Ray Winstone, Christoper Lee, Ben Kingsley and Jude Law. This made the addition of Chloƫ Grace Moretz - an American - in one of the leading roles seem quite odd, but she actually landed the part by tricking Scorsese into thinking she was English.

Throughout the audition process, Moretz spoke with a convincing British accent, something she picked up while living in London during the Kick-Ass shoot. She was so good at it that Scorsese believed it was real, and cast her in his film. However, at the end of one audition, Moretz slipped into her natural American accent while thanking the director, which he noticed, exclaiming "you tricked me!"

Rather than chastising her for lying, Scorsese kept her in the film, where she was able to deliver the English-accented goods.
