10 Biggest Mistakes Suicide Squad Has Already Made

2. Using "Bohemian Rhapsody" To Sell The Movie

You need only type "Suicide Squad Bohemian Rhapsody" into Twitter to see the effect that Queen's indelible classic had on those who watched the latest trailer for the movie. While the trailer itself was superbly edited, so much of the discussion about the film turned towards the brilliant use of the music rather than the actual film itself. Take the Reddit post for the trailer, where one of the most upvoted comments said "It really makes me wonder what % of my enjoyment of this trailer is due to Queen". It's no mistake that studios have been using popular music to sell movies for decades, the idea being that they create a bond with the audience by exploiting their love for a certain song. Bohemian Rhapsody is about as close to universally loved as a song gets, and so Warner Bros. are clearly hoping that this can make you want to see the movie and just forget about any hang-ups you might have. Now, it just so happens that the trailer itself is pretty interesting on its own terms, but cynically using a pop song to sell it is pretty lazy, and so it's easy to assume that the end product might similarly want to lean on other superficial elements like this rather than well-developed characters and a compelling plot. It's not damning evidence by any means, but if you look past how well it fit the trailer, it's a pretty transparent feat of mass manipulation. And we all fell for it.
