10 Biggest Movie Controversies Of 2018

1. The "Sexual Grooming" Scene - Show Dogs

Because Peter Rabbit almost murdering a man wasn't enough trauma for kids this year, this summer's Show Dogs went one worse by teaching kids some extremely inappropriate things about unwarranted touching.

The film was lambasted by critics and parents groups alike for a sequence in which Rottweiler Max (Ludacris) is required to enter a dog show where his genitals are to be fondled by judges. Max is concerned, but fellow canine Philippe (Stanley Tucci) suggests that he just "find a happy place" while being groped like it's no big deal.

It'd be a gross, tone-deaf moment in a film aimed at adults, but for children? It feels damn-near criminal.

It sends the iffy message that children should just deal with unsolicited advances rather than report them, and the backlash was strong enough that the distributor quickly re-cut the scene for its second week on release.

Whether you think the controversy was overblown or not, there's no denying the absurdity of such an ill-advised scene passing through so many hands and still making it into cinemas.
