Black Widow, starring Scarlett Johansson as the titular character, was pushed back several times until it was eventually released on July 9th this year. As is increasingly becoming the norm, Black Widow was released in cinemas and its own streaming platform, Disney+, simultaneously.

Johansson, an executive producer on the film, wasn't too happy about the decision and sued Disney for a loss of earnings she would have otherwise accrued through a bonus, had the film been profitable in cinemas. As movie-goers had the option of watching the film at home, Johansson argued that she would have received a sizeable bonus if the film had been exclusively released in cinemas.

The fallout had no clear villain, as although Johansson had been deprived extra earnings as a result of the decision, delaying the release of Black Widow any further would have resulted in a knock-on effect that would have delayed other films and TV shows - such as Hawkeye.

Alls well that ends well though, as Disney and Johansson settled out of court and will be working together on future projects, such as "Disney's Tower of Terror". Warms the heart seeing a bunch of rich people getting even richer. What a happy ending.
