4. Phil Lord And Chris Miller To Reboot The Greatest Action Hero For TV
The LEGO Movie and 22 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller may be Hollywood's two new golden boys, but they got their start on television; and will return to the medium for an exciting new project. According to Deadline, the dynamic directing duo are resurrecting the 1980s TV series The Greatest American Hero, which centered around a schoolteacher who receives a super-powered suit from aliens, but loses the instructions on how to use it and relies on learning how to be a superhero through trial and error. Lord and Miller will oversee and produce the new iteration of the show, with 22 Jump Street writer Rodney Rothman signed on to write and direct. Tawnia McKiernan, the daughter of original series creator Steven J. Cannell, will executive produce. Here's the description for the new series:
"The new Greatest American Hero will chronicle inner-city teacher Isaacs adventures after his discovery of a superhero suit which gives him superhuman abilities. Unfortunately for Isaac, he hates wearing the suit, and has to learn how to use its powers by trial and error because he quickly misplaces the suits instructions. He also has to deal with a government handler who has very different objectives than him and struggles as to whether he should use his newfound gifts to help others or just himself."
On an interesting side-note, Cannell also created the 21 Jump Street TV series, which Miller and Lord used as inspiration for their 21 and 22 Jump Street films, so they must be fans of Cannell's.
