9. Superman Costume Getting Tweaked for Sequel

A superhero's costume is one of the most important things to get right when adapting characters to the big screen. Superman's suit received a shocking amount of criticism when it was given an update for Man of Steel, which featured more muted colors, a redesigned S shield, and lost the now-dated red underpants (which, hilariously, caused the most uproar). The new suit was the biggest departure from the classic Christopher Reeve outfit we've seen on film, and more closely resembled Supe's costume in DC's New 52 relaunch. Zack Snyder's Man of Steel sequel (tentatively tilted Batman vs. Superman) is gearing up for production, and before cameras start rolling early next year Kal-El's iconic duds will be getting yet another revamp, though costume designer Michael Wilkinson merely calls the changes "tweaks" when speaking to CineMovie:
"We are now in the stage where we're refining our designs with the last series of camera tests and doing our final tweaks in preparation for shooting..."
Tweaking superhero costumes from film to film is nothing new. Spider-Man's outfit was recently given a revamp for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and we saw a few variations of the batsuit in the Dark Knight Trilogy. Wilkinson will have his hands full for the Superman sequel, being not only responsible for Superman's outfit, but also in charge of revamping Ben Affleck's Batman suit (which Kevin Smith has seen and called "mind bending") and developing the look of Wonder Woman, who will get her big screen debut in the film when she's played by Fast and Furious alum Gal Gadot. Now that production is getting underway, we can expect to see some behind the scenes shots of the outfits as they leak online.
