4. Star Wars: Rebels TV Show To Begin With Disney Channel Movie
Star Wars fans are soon going to get a ton of new content to seek their teeth into. Not only will we be getting JJ Abrams's Episode VII in December 2015, followed by spin-off films and other episodes (giving us one Star Wars film a year); but we'll be getting Star Wars on the small screen as well. Star Wars: Rebels will take place between episodes III and IV, a time that has until now remained untouched outside of the Expanded Universe. The show will air on Disney XD later this year, and according to Disney CEO Bob Iger, will be preceded by a TV movie to air on the Disney Channel. When Lucasfilm launched The Clone Wars in 2008 they released a tie-in feature film in theaters first, which was met with pretty negative results; so perhaps they've learned from that mistake. The Rebels movie will help introduce audiences to the new show and characters, and air this summer.
