You really have to hand it to Sherlock fans; they have remained incredibly patient when it comes to waiting for the show, having to endure seemingly excruciatingly long two-year gaps between seasons due to the busy schedules of the show's two stars, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Season 3 just aired, airing the usual three episodes before leaving fans begging for more, as usual. Creator Steven Moffat has been bombarded with questions about the show's return, first confirming that it would be back for at least 2 more seasons, and has now revealed that it could be another two years before the start of season 4. He was asked about season 4's premiere by IGN, and had this to say: "I have no idea. Sue's working on the schedules right now. I just started with Capaldi on the new series of Doctor Who. You know, we'll do what we can, but with no sacrifice in quality that's the thing. If people have to wait two years, they'll have to wait two years. When's the next James Bond film? You know, it's not that kind of show that turns up all the time. It's just not. But the good news is, that probably means it will turn up sporadically for a very, very long while." So, though he doesn't give an exact timeline for when fans can expect Sherlock's return, chances are we'll be getting the next season in 2016, judging by the increasingly full resumes of Cumberbatch and Freeman. It is refreshing to see a creator of a popular television show who cares about quality and prefers to do things right than to rush things, no matter how long that takes.
