2. Shane Black To Direct Predator Reboot

Shane Black Predator 20th Century Fox has tapped Iron Man 3 director Shane Black to reinvigorate the Predator franchise. On Wednesday, it was announced that Black would write the treatment for the film, before handing scripting duties off to Monster Squad screenwriter Fred Dekker and jumping into the director's chair. The film was originally announced as a reboot, but Black himself describes it as more of an "inventive sequel" that will pay tribute to what came before while exploring new facets of the Predator mythos: "As far as Fred and I are concerned anyway, why start over when you've all this rich mythology yet to mine? the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button." Honestly, that sounds a bit like what Robert Rodriguez and Nimrod Antal tried to do with 2010's Predators, though that film failed to strike a chord with audiences and critics and wasn't much of a box office success. So, it comes as no surprise that the studio is hoping to try again, and it's great to hear we wont' be going the Alien vs. Predator route again anytime soon. Black is a solid writer and director, and was acutally in the original 1987 film (and approached several times by Fox to take a look at the script), so this reboot/sequel/relaunch is in good hands.
