8. Director Shortlist For Snow White And The Huntsman Sequel
Oh yeah, they're making a Snow White and the Huntsman sequel! It's funny that this film was announced shortly after the first film came out, but all talk quieted down until this week. My guess is that Maleficent's stellar opening weekend at the box office had something to do with it, and showed that audiences are still game for these live-action fairy tale reimaginings. Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth are expected to reprise their roles, though director Rupert Sanders was forced to drop out following that embarrassing cheating scandal he had with Stewart. Which is a real shame, because if anyone shouldn't return for another one of these films, it's Stewart. Anyway, the new shortlist, courtesy of Deadline, includes three names: Frank Darabont, Gavin O'Connor, and Andres Muschietti. Darabont is probably the best choice, with excellent films like The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile on his resume, as well as work on The Walking Dead. O'Connor is famous for the mixed martial arts film Warrior, and has finally wrapped production on the incredibly problematic Natalie Portman film Jane Got A Gun. Muschietti, on the other hand, is another intriguing name, and perhaps the big standout. He's known for the hit horror film Mama, and just walked away from the Mummy reboot in the works over at Universal. The studio will likely not want to let him go, so handing him SWATH2 might draw him back into their good graces. We should get confirmation about the studio's choice soon, because they want to get this thing into theaters by 2016 in order to avoid any conflicts with the incredibly busy schedules of their two co-stars.
