9. The Mummy Reboot Loses Another Director

Universal has been trying to bring back their expansive catalog of classic monsters for a while now, with mixed results. The 2010 remake of The Wolfman was a huge disappointment, critically and financially, while their remake of Dracula, titled Dracula Untold, doesn't arrive until October. They've also been trying to get a reboot of the popular Mummy franchise for a while now, but have hit some troubled waters in its production. First they couldn't decide on which direction to take it (dark and gritty vs. family-friendly), then they lost director Len Wiseman after he'd spent about a year on the film. Wiseman was eventually replaced by Mama director Andres Muschietti, but according to The Wrap he's left the film over creative differences. Apparently he wanted to make a scarier tale, while the studio is far more interested in going the financially safe, family-friendly adventure film route. It's a good thing the mummification process is so effective, because it looks like this film will remain dead for a while longer.
