9. Quentin Tarantino Wants To Make A 4-Hour Django Unchained Miniseries

Django Unchained Gif Quentin Tarantino's next film, The Hateful Eight, was thrown into the ringer when Gawker leaked the script, prompting him to shelve the film entirely. Recent reports suggested that he may still make the movie, though at the Cannes film festival the director dropped another interesting hint at what his next project may be: A Django Unchained miniseries. Django Unchained clocks in at a hefty 165 minutes, and while some found it to be a tad long, Tarantino actually had to trim 90 additional minutes just to get it down to that runtime. Now, he's looking to revisit that cut material.
€œI have about 90 minutes worth of material with Django. It hasn€™t been seen. My idea, frankly, is to cut together a four-hour version of Django Unchained,€ said Tarantino. €œBut I wouldn€™t show it like a four hour movie. I would cut it up into hour chapters. Like a four-part mini-series. And show it on cable television. Show it like an hour at a time, each chapter. We€™d use all the material I have and it wouldn€™t be an endurance test. It would be a mini-series. And people love those.€
Yes, people do love those! We also love Tarantino movies, and loved Django Unchained. Of course, nothing is official and the project itself would be a risky endeavor, even for a network like HBO or even Netflix. Then of course there's the question of whether or not the film would succeed in four one-hour parts; something Tarantino will have to consider when chopping the movie up to bits. However, he likes the idea of a miniseries, and thinks he could get it to work:
€œPeople roll their eyes at a four-hour movie. But a four-hour mini-series that they like, then they are dying to watch all four parts. That€™s how I thought it could work.€
