6. Alfonso Cuaron May Direct Harry Potter Spin-Off, And The Shining Prequel

Alfonso Cuaron Alfonso Cuaron has been making films for years, but garnered quite a bit of attention with last year's Gravity, which earned him a well-deserved Academy Award for Best Director. Now, he seems to be setting his sights on two high-profile projects: Warner Bros.' Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and the studio's prequel to The Shining, called The Overlook Hotel. Not much is known about the Shining prequel, though Cuaron would certainly be a great choice, as evidenced by films like Children of Men. Fantastic Beasts, on the other hand, is on the fast track for 2016, and will tell the tale of Newt Scamander, who wrote the Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, set 70 years after the events of Harry's adventures in the beloved book and film series. Cuaron directed one of the best films in the Potter series, The Prisoner Of Azkaban, so he would be a... well, fantastic choice to helm this spin-off. At this point, we have no word on whether he's officially signed on for either project, but we'll keep you posted once we know! Source: Nikki Finke
