10 Biggest Movie And TV News This Week (Sept 21)

7. DC And Vertigo Character Lucifer Gets Pilot Commitment At Fox

Warner Bros. is finally showing a ton of confidence in their comic book properties. Not only are we getting nine untitled DC films from 2016 to 2020, following Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice's release, but we're getting a slew of new DC TV shows as well. Arrow is currently heading into its third season, as The Flash, iZombie, Constantine, and Gotham are all premiering this fall. A few more DC titles were announced this week as well. We'll get to all of them, but let's start with Lucifer. Based on the character introduced in Neil Gaiman's Sandman comic (who was later given his own series), Lucifer has landed a pilot commitment at Fox, the current home of Gotham. The series will be produced and written by Californication creator Tom Kapinos, and is described as follows:
€œ centers on Lucifer who, bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he opens an exclusive piano bar called Lux.€
That certainly sounds like an interesting direction that not only pays tribute to the source material, but manages to update the story in a way that's fresh and exciting. It also perfectly fits in Kapinos' wheelhouse, as the LA setting and debauchery-inducing situations gave him plenty to work with in Californication. Source: Deadline
