8. Assassin's Creed Film Goes In Limbo As Fantastic Four Gets Delayed
The exciting Deadpool announcement this week came with a few other updates about 20th Century Fox tentpole franchises. Two high-profile projects were given release date changes: The Assassin's Creed adaptation, and the Fantastic Four remake. Let's start with the bad news: Assassin's Creed, which is being produced by Michael Fassbender (who will also star) has been pulled from Fox's upcoming slate completely. The film was originally slated for an August 7, 2015 release date, but according to THR it simply won't be ready in time. The lack of a new release date is a bit disconcerting, though, suggesting that maybe there's more trouble behind the scenes than meets the eye. The announcement coincides with the Fantastic Four reboot, which was slated for release on June 19, 2015. That film has now taken Assassin's Creed's old August 7 release date. The six-week delay is no cause for alarm, and is simply a way to give director Josh Trank more time to work on the film's post-production CGI and to cash in a bit on San Diego Comic-Con. The studio failed to bring anything from the film to this year's convention, and will likely remedy that next year and build hype just in time for the film's end-of-summer release. Whether it manages to hit Guardians of the Galaxy-levels of success remains to be seen.
