5. Dax Shepard To Write, Direct, And Star In CHiPS Remake

It's rather unsurprising that Hollywood is planning a reboot of the popular TV show CHiPS, which aired from 1977 to 1983. The show followed two California highway patrolmen, played by Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada, who fought crime and generally acted "cool." It was very much of its time, but is getting a revamp courtesy of Dax Shepard. Shepard will write, direct, and co-star in the film, along with Michael Pena. Shepard will take the Wilcox role, with Pena in line to play Estrada's character. The reboot is being overseen and spearheaded by Warner Brothers. The tone will reportedly be unlike the original series, however. The film will air closer to action-packed "buddy cop" movies like Lethal Weapon or Bad Boys. Now, the only question is... does the world really want or need a CHiPS remake? We didn't think we needed 21 Jump Street, and that turned out okay... Perhaps Warner Bros. is onto something here. We'll see.
