10 Biggest Similarities Between Guardians Of The Galaxy And Star Wars

1. Insurmountable Odds

At their core both galaxies contain the same essential thing - loveable, identifiable heroes facing insurmountable odds. And although the characters in both franchises are hardly selfless when first introduced, through the span of two plus hours they each learn that there's a bigger cause to strive for opposed to mere self-preservation. Amidst the perils present with saving their respective galaxies, both group of heroes are forced to face down a seemingly invincible evil power. A moon sized space station and an Infinity Stone, both with the ability to destroy an entire civilization or planet, seem all but impossible to stop. It's not just a desire to do the right thing that enables them to prevail, but also the desire to fight for your comrades beside you. Only then can evil truly be stopped - a great storytelling theme which is overtly present in both franchises. Star Wars has been the benchmark for what die-hard space opera fans want to see for decades now. And while over the years there has been many less worthy impostors, Guardians Of The Galaxy is the first one to truly take on the mantle of being considered the €œnew€ Star Wars. By no means is that statement a cut or a hack to what George Lucas has built. Instead it is a complete and undeniable praise to what Marvel has accomplished.
