10 Biggest Star Trek What Ifs

2. What If Q Appeared To Captain Kirk And Led Him To The Borg?

Of all the incredible characters introduced in ST:TNG, Q is probably the greatest. Fans love him, and John de Lancie's performance as the enigmatic godlike being was played to perfection. He was responsible for introducing Starfleet to the Borg, which helped them prepare for their eventual confrontation.

Seeing as Q is an immortal being of infinite godlike power, why didn't he make his presence known to humanity when Captain Kirk was seeking new life and new civilizations? If he had, Q would definitely have appeared as a woman. This would have played on Kirk's *ahem* interests, and made Q more relatable.

Kirk would have gotten along with Q far better than Picard, but Kirk's bravado would end up endangering the entire Alpha Quadrant. Kirk would have gone at the Borg with everything he had. If he managed to save his ship from Assimilation, he would have become far more militaristic.

Kirk would move away from his desire for exploration and would become a major player in militarizing Starfleet. This would help prepare for the Borg invasion, but Kirk would reach out to Q for help as well, which is something Picard would never do. With Q's aid, the Borg would be stopped, leaving Starfleet a more militarized organization, preferring conflict over diplomacy as it spread across the galaxy.
