6. What Do Boggarts Really Look Like?

Boggart Harry Potter

Although relatively easy to deal with, the thought of a Boggart is a little bit terrifying, given it's a creature that can adopt the form of your deepest fear. But before it takes on that form, what does it look like? When it's simply chilling out in the cupboard, waiting for a new victim to come along, what shape is it?

No one knows, because a Boggart instantly assumes the form of the person in front of it, meaning it can never be seen in its true shape. It has to occupy some sort of physical space, so it must have a defined form to a degree, but what it is remains anyone's guess.

The one person who might know is Mad-Eye Moody who, thanks to his eye (again) sees that there is a Boggart in 12 Grimmauld Place, but it's unclear whether it then assumes the shape of his fear or not.
