10 Biggest Video Game Movie Flops

7. Alone In The Dark

Alone In The Dark (film)
Lions Gate Films

Budget: $20 million

US Box Office: $5,178,569

A glorified trailer for the video game, the film had to follow on from Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare, the fourth entry in the gaming franchise. In other words, this adaptation was only ever going to appeal (or make sense) to hardcore gamers and was setting itself up to fail.

It wasn’t helped by the fact that the director is Uwe Boll, who squanders some interesting ideas in favour of not particularly well-staged chase sequences and not particularly convincing CG monsters. You know you’re in trouble when the opening narration, intended to set up the story, is totally incomprehensible.

What The Critics Said: “So mind-blowingly horrible that it teeters on the edge of cinematic immortality.” (The Globe And Mail)
