10 Bizarre And Shocking Things That Happened On Film & TV Sets
1. Death And Decapitation Mar Twilight Zone: The Movie
All of the aforementioned calamities pale in comparison to an event which occurred on the set of Twilight Zone: The Movie. On 23 July 1982, a helicopter crashed during filming in California's Indian Dunes. It had been hovering at around 24 feet from the ground while pyrotechnic explosions happened simultaneously. The heat from the explosions split the rotor blades, subsequently causing the devastating crash.
The disaster resulted in the deaths of three people. Actor Vic McMorrow was decapitated, while two child actors were also killed. Myca Dinh Le was seven years old when she passed away, while Renee Shin-Yi Chen was just six. Tragically, the children were not even supposed to be on-set, as the way in which director John Landis had hired them violated Californian child labour laws. The helicopter's six passengers were also injured, but they thankfully survived.
Bizarrely, around the time of filming, McMorrow had mentioned to a number of people that he had been having dreams about his own death. In addition, he had recently taken out a substantial life insurance policy. His demise was made even stranger by the fact that it occurred in an identical manner to one which had been conceptualised for the very film in which he starred.
