4. Drug-Infused Chowder Leaves Titanic

On a lighter note, something peculiar also happened on the set of Titanic, but thankfully its repercussions were amusing rather than deadly. The high of being involved in the making of a major Hollywood production was undoubtedly potent for those involved in Titanic’s creation, but it was nothing compared to the high that some of them experienced one fateful lunchtime.

One day, while taking a break from shooting for some well-earned sustenance, those who were on set sat down for a hearty meal of seafood chowder. However, unbeknownst to the diners, somebody had laced the food with copious amounts of PCP. The ensuing chaos culminated in the hospitalisation of a large number of cast and crew members.

Recalling the incident, director James Cameron described people vomiting, weeping hysterically and collapsing on gurneys while the film’s director of photography led a large and clamorous conga line down the hospital’s corridor. Cameron was even stabbed in the face with a pen by another severely intoxicated crew member, but he appeared to take it all in his stride.

The identity of the perpetrator has never been confirmed, but suspicions surround a particular crew member who had been fired the previous day for causing conflict with the caterers. Some posit that he was seeking revenge by attempting to get them in trouble. If true, it was certainly a successful endeavour, for they were dismissed immediately after the incident.
