As the son of Bruce Lee, Brandon Lee spent much of his youth overshadowed by his famous father. Nonetheless, he was a talented actor and martial artist in his own right, which prompted Alex Proyas to cast him in his 1994 superhero film The Crow. Unfortunately, this would be the last film that Lee ever made, for he died before shooting concluded.

On 21 March 1993, Lee was filming a scene in which his character is shot by Michael Massee’s. The props team did not have the time to purchase standard commercial dummy cartridges, which would generally be used when filming scenes of this kind. Instead, they made their own, but when setting up the gun, improperly deactivated cartridges were accidentally left in the chamber. When its trigger was pulled, it discharged blank rounds, the force of which struck Lee in the stomach, fatally wounding the 28-year-old.

The most disturbing thing about this tragic event is that a death which closely mirrored Brandon Lee’s had been acted out by his father in the film Game of Death. In a particular scene, actors are informed of the correct way to fire a prop gun, but unbeknownst to them, there is a hitman in the group. Realising this, Bruce Lee's character charges towards them as the gun goes off and he is hit in the face with a real bullet. The similarities between the two scenarios are undeniably uncanny.
