10 Bizarre Horror Movie Choices (& Why They Happened)
1. Mari's Corpse Moves - The Last House on the Left
In Wes Craven's unforgettable 1972 debut The Last House on the Left, embattled protagonist Mari Collingwood (Sandra Peabody) is shot and killed by psycho villain Krug (David Hess), after which her dead body is discovered by her parents.
But there's a strange quirk in this sequence, as for some reason, despite Mari very clearly being dead, it doesn't take much effort to notice that Mari is still breathing and moving.
However, this wasn't a result of amateur acting or directing on a low-budget horror film. Instead, Craven originally shot the film with Mari surviving long enough to identify Krug to her parents, but decided during editing to nix this part of the story.
So, Wes had to basically cut around Mari clearly being alive as best possible in order to give the impression that she was dead, while having new dialogue dubbed in to tell the audience that, despite her movements, she is in fact deceased.
