10 Bizarre Ways Famous Actors Got Into Character For Movie Roles

1. Shia LaBeouf Pulled A Tooth, Cut His Own Cheek, And Spent Days "Watching Horses Die" - Fury

You're probably well-aware that Shia LaBeouf has gone full-on nutcase these days. It seems like everytime you hear about Shia, he's doing something mental on the set of his latest movie in order to prove his dedication to a role. On The Life and Death of Charley Countryman, Shia dropped LSD so he could get into the right state of mind; on Nymphomaniac, he insisted on real sex; making Lawless, he got into moonshine. But it was during the filming of Fury - that "World War II tank film" - that Shia really went to town and did a whole bunch of super crazy things in order to get into character. Things like: joining the National Guard, pulling out his own tooth, cutting his own cheek with a knife, and - for some reason - spendings days "watching horses die," which just sounds awfully traumatic. No wonder the poor kid is experiencing serious brain trouble these days - who would want to subject themselves to something as inherently awful as that? Shia is out to prove himself, though, clearly. For his next movie, he'll probably cut off a finger or leap from a third-story balcony. 'Cause that's Shia, ya'll. That's Shia. Like this list? Got any to add?
