10 Blatantly Unfinished Movies (That Were Released Anyway)

9. Nailed

Silver Linings Playbook director David O. Russell has had a tumultuous relationship, to say the least, with the studios financing his films. And that’s to say nothing of the fist fights he has gotten into with the stars of them.

The controversial helmer was bound to have a few abandoned projects in his CV given his hot temper and ambitious vision, but Nailed really takes the biscuit when it comes to shameless studios attempting to release the scraps of an unfinished film as a stand-alone flick.

Despite a fairly stellar cast including James Marsden, Catherine Keener, and Jessica Biel, and a timely satirical swipe at the US healthcare system, Nailed suffered from a troubled production and was eventually abandoned acrimoniously by Russell circa 2010.

Despite this, the film appeared in theatres four years later, patched together by another director, disowned by the first, with a new title (“Accidental Love”), and no new scenes to paper over its evident cracks. The “finished” film was slated by critics, prompting one to publicly call out the studio for including his positive comments in a review—because the comments in question were referring to how good Russell’s version of the film might have been, not the actual movie.
