10 Bold Film Predictions For 2016

10. Alice Through The Looking Glass Will Be Brilliant

2010's Alice In Wonderland was unbelievably disappointing. Despite being directed by Tim Burton and featuring an absolutely stellar cast (including Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Stephen Fry, Alan Rickman and Christopher Lee) the film was bland, humourless and worst of all...just plain boring. But the sequel, Alice Through The Looking Glass, is going to be so much better. In fact, it's going to be a legitimately great movie, and will make good on the promise of the original.

There are a couple reasons why we've got every reason to believe it's going to be great. For a start, Alice In Wonderland was the start of a trend of adapting famous stories in live action, portraying them with a darker, edgier spin. It's totally natural that the first attempt might have some teething problems, and since then we've seen some genuinely decent adaptations, like Oz The Great And Powerful, Into The Woods and Cinderella. At the very least they're so, so much better than Alice was. Then there's the fact that Alice was directed by Tim Burton at the height of his directorial slump, just before the mediocre Dark Shadows. Through The Looking Glass, however, is directed by James Bobin, who co-created the brilliant Flight Of The Concords and directed the awesome The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted. The time is right, then, for Disney to redeem itself. It's had the practice and it's got a great director and an amazing cast. Alice Through The Looking Glass is going to be brilliant.
