10 Bold Film Predictions For 2016

8. Michael Keaton Will Fade Back Into Obscurity

Following Keaton's Best Actor nomination for Birdman (many were convinced he had it in the bag) critics have been bandying about the notion that Michael Keaton has returned in a big way. They're convinced one great performance will be enough to validate the actor and thrust him into the critical limelight for an extended career. But as we've seen in the past, this generally isn't the case when it comes to critical resurgences. The actor will more than likely begin to make mediocre films again quite soon. It happened with Mickey Rourke and it will happen with Michael Keaton, too. Back in 2008, critics hailed Rourke's performance in Aronofsky's The Wrestler as the start of a dramatically new career. Yet it didn't take long for the actor to return to mediocre blockbuster film-making (including Iron Man 2 andThe Expendables), casting off all of the esteem he'd gained through his Academy Award nomination. The same will happen to Michael Keaton. Sure, he'll continue to get roles, but he'll give up on the whole critical revival thing fairly early on. We'll start to see evidence of that in 2016. Expect to see side roles and bit parts in big-budget blockbusters. I mean, he was in 2015's Minions after all.
