10 Bold Oscar Predictions For 2017

2. Hail, Caesar! €“ Best Original Screenplay

Inside Llewyn Davis. True Grit. A Serious Man. The last three films directed by the Coen Brothers, all previously nominated for at least one Academy Award. At this point it's fairly safe to say they know what they're doing. 2016's Hail, Caesar!, then, is unlikely to be much different. Hail, Caesar! tells the story of a €œfixer€ (someone who attempts to minimize and negate bad publicity by quelling wild stories) named Eddie Mannix who works in the Hollywood film industry in the 1950s. Mannix (played by Josh Brolin) is aiding the production of a movie called Hail Caesar when its famous star Baird Whitlock (George Clooney) is kidnapped, leaving Mannix to try and rescue him. As standard, the story is written entirely by the Coens, making it a strong contender for Best Original Screenplay. At this point, it's all but guaranteed a nomination at the very least. It was released in February 2016 in the US to very positive reviews. Business as usual for the Coens, then.
