Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 - which almost certainly won't be its official title - will be the first Marvel movie to debut in the wake of Avengers 4, rising from the ashes of Phase 3.

Tom Holland's wall-crawler will likely have come of age by this point. There's nothing like serving in an Infinity War to turn a budding superhero into a fully-fledged crimefighter, but Peter Parker's problems won't end with Thanos.

Marvel might struggle to raise the stakes after the next two Avengers movies send them into the stratosphere, but the Homecoming sequel could maintain the momentum by introducing some of Marvel's most iconic supervillains to the MCU.

A villain packed-movie that assembles a version of the Sinister Six makes a lot of sense. Homecoming's post-credits sting even hinted that this might be coming.

Given that the Vulture is a founder member of the crew, foundations have already be laid, providing Michael Keaton is up for reprising his role, and the addition of Michael Mando's Scorpion makes the team one third complete.

Granted, Scorpion wasn't part of the original Sinister Six, but he has appeared in variations of the team over the years, and Marvel would need to take a flexible approach when it comes to choosing the lineup, given that several classic Spidey villains have appeared in other films relatively recently.

Still, the movie will still be spoiled for choice when it comes to filling the other four slots. Doctor Octopus hasn't appeared on screen for a decade and a half, and deserves a reboot, while iconic bad guys like Kraven the Hunter, and Mysterio are yet to make their cinematic debut.
