10 Bold Predictions About Every Upcoming MCU Movie
2. Captain Marvel Will Match Wonder Woman's Box Office Feats
Wonder Woman gave DC's answer to the MCU its first unequivocal hit, proving a smash at the box office and officially making female-fronted superhero movies viable.
Although this realisation should have sunk in a long time ago in Hollywood, there are signs the fans are going to see a lot more girl power on screen going forward, as Marvel is getting in on the act too.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is the studio's first movie to include a superheroine's name in the title, and the Brie Larson-fronted Captain Marvel will mark the first time it's put one centre stage when it lands in 2019.
Wonder Woman will be the yardstick that Captain Marvel will be measured against, and Diana Prince's solo debut has raised the bar pretty high. The odds appear to be stacked against Carol Danvers, but there's reason to believe she will match the Amazon warrior's box office feats.
Granted, Captain Marvel isn't as iconic as Wonder Woman, though there variables which swing the odds in her favour, chief among them Marvel Studios' track record.
Wonder Woman arrived off the back of several underwhelming films, which will have likely eroded the hype ahead of the film's launch. Positive reviews counterbalanced this somewhat, but negative press has never really been an issue in the MCU.
Launching between Infinity War and its sequel, Captain Marvel will be in the perfect position to capitalise on the buzz the former movie has kicked up, while Marvel's impressive track record for delivering fan-pleasing adaptations should be enough to compensate for the fact Danvers isn't quite as well known as Wonder Woman.
If Marvel Studios does what it does best, there's no reason why Captain Marvel won't be the studio's Wonder Woman.
