10 Bonkers Theories About 2015’s Movies That Surely Can’t Be True

1. Kylo Ren's A Double Agent - Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Theory: (SPOILERS) Kylo Ren isn't really falling deeper and deeper to the dark side, but is actually a double agent for Luke and the Jedi, plotting to defeat Snoke all along. Killing Han Solo was part of the act (although the theory doesn't state whether the smuggler was in on it. Why It's Believable: A lot of Episode VII's narrative ties into this; Kylo is obsessed with continuing the legacy of Darth Vader, but that requires him to ignore that massive thing of how Anakin was ultimately redeemed, while it's clear from Lor San Tekka that Snoke and the First Order's impact on the galaxy has some link to Luke. Overall, it's just quite a nice idea that Adam Driver will actually be a good guy. Why It Can't Be True: Aside from there being nothing really tangible in the movie to suggest this at all, it looks like Kylo Ren is shaping up to be an opposite of Vader; similar to how Luke kept to the Light Side where is father failed (themes of Star Wars recur, after all), he's going to stick on the Dark Side where Anakin came back. There's real anguish on Kylo's face when he kills Han, and it's a lot more than just offing his father - he's fully embracing the Dark Side and removing the key element of redemption, whereas Vader had a weakness in the form of his compassion for his son. It looks like this sequel trilogy will ultimately be about Luke and Rey trying to redeem his nephew (and her cousin?), but this time failing. And that is very interesting.
