You have to admire Ang Lee for at least trying something different with Hulk: unfortunately for the director of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (who also once helmed an adaptation of Sense and Sensibility), the folk who ventured out to the theatre to watch this movie wanted less melancholy and more megalomania - the smashing kind. Translation: Hulk was far too thoughtful for its own good; lots more explosions necessary. It might seem a little sick to suggest that the brains be squeezed out of a blockbuster that was desperately hard to be something more - something cerebral. But you should know where you are with a movie called "Hulk," and Lee's efforts failed to deliver on the promise of that familiar title. Basically, then, the picture piled mediative scene on top of mediative scene, with action scenes thrown in "for good measure." Super dull.
