10 Box Office Bombs You Could Spot From A Mile Away
9. R.I.P.D.
All of the promotional footage for R.I.P.D. made Robert Schwentke's blockbuster look like an uninspired and ill-conceived Ghostbusters/Men in Black knockoff with CGI effects that looked like something straight out of Playstation 2 cut-scene. The final product... is exactly that.
Jeff Bridges on autopilot doing his 'cowboy with accent' schtick, Ryan Reynolds (an actor with incredible natural charisma) playing a protagonist as interesting as a discarded sponge, awful effects, a cliche-ridden story and tedious set-pieces saw the movie generating precisely zero buzz when it hit theaters in July 2013.
As everyone had predicted, R.I.P.D. tanked spectacularly and earned just $12.7 million in its opening weekend, an absolutely dire number for a summer tentpole with a budget north of $100 million.
Universally panned, the movie could only gross $78.3 million worldwide and reportedly made a loss of $90 million for Universal.
