10 Brilliant Movies That Inspired Annoying Cinematic Trends

4. The Return of 3-D - Avatar (2009)

avatar2Annoying Examples: Clash of the Titans, Man Of Steel, Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness When Avatar first hit cinemas, I remember coming out of the theatre and hearing everyone saying how great they thought it was, 3-D aside. Of course, the 3-D element - unlike we'd ever seen it before - certainly helped proceedings, given that James Cameron's movie was undeniably gorgeous to look at. And it made people like 3-D. Nowadays, everyone seems to have turned on Avatar, ever since they found out that the story is sort of like Pocahontas. I'm still a fan, but unfortunately it also kicked off a truly obnoxious and irritating movie trend. Having seen how far 3-D had come with Avatar, we all expected that the next big 3-D would blow us away in equal measure, but that never happened, of course, because nobody spent as much time making it work as James Cameron did. That's to say, every second movie that hits theatres now is either shot in a dismal and dark 3-D, or converted lazily in post-production. You have to pay more money for that pleasure, for some reason. So great as Avatar is, and as much as I admire the technology, it accidently gave rise to a movement that nobody is taking seriously.
