10 Brilliant Musical Movie Moments That Caught You Completely Off Guard

3. Lick My Love Pump €“ Spinal Tap

Spinal Tap Also turned up to 11 is the brilliant and iconic music film This Is Spinal Tap. Running a thin line between stupid and clever, Spinal Tap features too many musical scenes to mention. Starring Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer as the members of semi-fictional rock band Spinal Tap, the 1984 film pioneered the mockumentary genre and is loved by musicians and non-musicians alike for its mix of absurdity and realism. One of the funniest impromptu music scenes from the film sees guitarist Nigel Tufnel (played by Christopher Guest) playing a slow and moving piano piece to interviewer Marty Di Bergi (played by Rob Reiner). The song is haunting and beautiful, played in a minor key, and Di Bergi is impressed. The simplicity of the humour is the strongest point, as Tufnel reveals the lurid name of the tune.

I like writing about films and hope you like reading about them too. And watching them, of course.
