10 Brilliant TV Actors Who Have Failed At Becoming Movie Stars
7. Claire Danes
574360Claire Danes' big-screen career certainly got off to a strong start; after making her feature debut in the 1994 adaptation of Little Women, the actress gained widespread recognition for her performance in Baz Luhrman's Romeo + Juliet, worked with Oliver Stone, Francis Ford Coppola and provided a voice role on the English version of Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke, all by the time she was 20 years old.
However, her career so far has been book-ended by two memorable characters on television; Angela Chase on My So-Called Life and Homeland's Carrie Mathison, both of which have seen the 37 year-old actress showered with critical praise despite airing almost two decades apart. Danes won her first Golden Globe in 1995 at the age of just 16, before winning two consecutively for her work on Homeland in 2012 and 2013.
Danes' movie career has been a lot more sporadic, with the actress seemingly unable to land roles as challenging and complicated as the ones she became famous for on television. Her most high-profile big-screen appearances came in Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines and Matthew Vaughn's Stardust, with only one movie credit to her name in the last seven years. When Homeland does finally reach its conclusion, however, Danes has more than proven herself capable of making a real impact as a Hollywood leading lady.
