10 Brilliant TV Actors Who Have Failed At Becoming Movie Stars
6. Jon Hamm
Jon Hamm didn't secure his big break until his late 30's when he was cast as Don Draper in Mad Men and since the show first hit the air in 2007, the actor has worked steadily in a number of movies across multiple genres, but rarely in a leading role. With Mad Men now over, it remains to be seen if Hamm can make the permanent transition from television actor to movie star.
Mad Men turned the actor into a household name, and he won a Golden Globe for his work in 2008, following it up with another four nominations, not to mention winning two Screen Actors Guild awards as part of the show's ensemble. Hamm has gone on record saying that he turns down a lot of the scripts he is offered because they are too similar to Don Draper, which would go some way to explaining the patchy quality of his big screen filmography.
His first attempt at playing leading man in 2010's Stolen resulted in a 0% Rotten Tomatoes score, but he fared a little better with last year's mildly successful Million Dollar Arm. The 44 year-old is now at a crucial stage in his career, when he either cements himself as a Hollywood mainstay, or faces the danger of fading into obscurity.
