10 Brilliantly Self Aware Wes Craven Cameos
4. Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back - Himself
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofjQsLqwV6EKevin Smith's extraordinarily self-indulgent supposed farewell to his View Askewniverse (before the much better Clerks 2 came along a few years later) is mostly just there for Smith to make in jokes referring back to both his earlier movies and seemingly the entire rest of Miramax's past successes.
Craven's Scream franchise had already been taking the Miramax dollar to bite the hand that feeds and mock Hollywood conventions, so Jay And Silent Bob wasn't really all that different.
Craven's Scream 3 sent up the concept of horror franchises with too many installments (a self fulfilling prophecy given how much worse it was than the first two) by bringing its cast to the Hollywood lot where film-within-a-film Stab 3 is filming. Among those taking the studio tour were Smith and Jason Mewes in character as Jay and Silent Bob. Having Craven cameo in their movie was really just returning the favour.
In Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, the eponymous stoner duo crash the Miramax lot and come up against the ridiculous sequels being filmed there, including a much more violent Good Will Hunting 2 and Scream 4 with Shannen Doherty being stalked by an ape in the ghostface costume and Craven as the onscreen director ("market research says people love monkeys," says Craven).
