3. Castle - Himself

Apart from a hands-off Executive Producer role on the MTV Scream TV series, this was Craven's final credit. Lighthearted crime romp Castle, a sort of Murder She Wrote if Malcolm Reynolds was in the Angela Lansbury role, has always enjoyed a little meta-fictional fun.

The novels written by the character on screen have all been published under his name in the real world, making the fictional writer a real New York Times bestselling novelist. Meanwhile, the show has filled the writer's social circle with real life crime writers like Dennis Lehane and James Patterson to add to the mix of real and fictional.

So, naturally when one of Castle's classic ridiculous plots involves a horror movie staple like a cursed DVD, who's Nathan Fillion's hapless crime writer gonna call? A top horror director of course.

This episode, from the likable mystery show's fifth season, features Craven functioning as a voice of reason to pull the credible Castle back from wholeheartedly embracing a supernatural explanation and encourage him to start looking for actual evidence in the DVD.
