1. Nicolas Cage - The Wicker Man (2006)
Warner Bros. What else could it possibly be? Neil LaBute's remake of the classic 1973 horror fails miserably as a movie, but as an unintentionally hilarious comedy it's up there with the best. Nicolas Cage drives the crazy up to a level that only he can attain, with a performance so insane that punching a woman in the face while wearing a bear suit
isn't the most ridiculous thing about it. That distinction, of course, falls to his now-legendary confrontation with an angry swarm of bees. Poured into a mesh helmet, Cage's screams of 'Not the bees!' and 'They're in my eyes!' are so brilliantly overacted that he must surely be doing it on purpose. An actor that is easily susceptible to going wildly over-the-top in his performances, this moment stands head and shoulders above the rest, no mean feat considering it comes from a movie where he says 'killing me won't bring back your goddamn honey' with a completely straight face. Do you agree that these are brilliantly over-the-top acting moments? What other larger-than-life performances would you have included? As always, sign off in the comments below.
