10 British Horror Films You've Probably Never Seen
4. The Legend Of Hell House
If supernatural horror is your pleasure then look no further than then 1973’s The Legend of Hell House. Creepy house, check! Paranormal investigators, check! Scary cat, check! A fabulous early seventies electronic soundtrack, check!
With a cast of experts, both scientific and paranormal, assembled to establish whether ghosts really do exist, things start to go wrong very quickly and the evil property begins to effect them all. Will any one survive?
With a cast of only six actors and filmed almost entirely inside rooms at night, The Legend of Hell house manages to be thrillingly over the top without ever having to step outside. This film is so full of cliches it should not work, but in the hands of writer Richard Matheson, who is responsible for classics such as the novel I Am Legend and the Twilight Zone episode Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, and under the able direction of John Hough, this film is like a shot of caffeine for horror fans. It just works a treat, from its huge collars and saturated colours, to its bat s**t crazy ending, this thick slice of cheesiness has chills aplenty.
