10 British Horror Films You've Probably Never Seen

3. Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter

Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter from 1974 is a prime example of Hammer’s gift for producing good, camp horror in the vein of their earlier efforts, Twins of Evil and Vampire Circus. If the title doesn’t fill you with hope, then perhaps you should stay away from the play button. It’s about a guy called Captain Kronos and yes, you guessed it, he’s a vampire hunter.

This is flamboyant 70’s horror at its best, with tight trousers for the men and low cut tops for the ladies! As a former solider and now vampire hunter, Kronos, played by German actor Horst Janson, finds himself trying to save a village at the mercy of these vile creatures. The story is a simple set up and was originally planned as a series of Vampire Hunter movies, but poor box office made this the only entry.

This film makes it onto the list for one key scene where our eponymous hero is trying to work out the best way to dispatch this particular variety of bloodsucker. The scene is surprisingly uncomfortable to watch and as it descends into the torture of the poor creature, the viewer is left feeling very uncomfortable. This extended scene is totally out of place with the fun romp the rest of the film aspires to be.

Watch for fun, remember it for its much darker moments.
