10 Brutal Movies With The Biggest Body Counts

9. Starship Troopers

Estimated Body Count: 256

On the flip-side of Saving Private Ryan, we have an altogether different type of war film, with Paul Verhoeven's gloriously ultra-violent political satire Starship Troopers.

Yet much like Spielberg's film, the violence is employed here less for entertainment - though it sure is fun! - and more to make a thematic point, that lives both human and alien are wasted on a war fuelled by a fascistic desire for "empire."

It's an impressively equal opportunities affair, with Verhoeven reveling in the grisly slaughter of both humans and "bugs" alike, with the final body count a 50-50 split between the warring species. Was this on purpose? It's nice to think so.

The fantastical nature of the film allows Verhoeven to deliver a continually dynamic array of wildly ridiculous deaths, which walk a fine line between hilarious and nauseating.
